Cardinals LB Jordan Hicks takes pay cut in 2021

The Arizona Cardinals have made some cap-saving moves this offseason. Starting left guard Justin Pugh agreed to a pay cut to helo the team build its roster. Center Rodney Hudson restructured his contract to create more than $7 million in cap space.

The latest is linebacker Jordan Hicks.

He redid his contract, but it wasn’t a basic restructure. It was a reduction in pay for this coming season. He agreed to take a $3 million pay cut.

He was scheduled to make $5 million in salary this coming season. His salary for 2021 will now be $2 million. He can also earn up to another $1 million in roster bonuses. He gets up to $500,000 for each game he is on the roster and  up to another $500,000 for being active on game days.

His cap hit was going to be $9 million. Now it is $6 million in 2021.

He also adjusted his 2022 season. He was scheduled to make $6 million in salary. Now it will be $4.25 million. He will also be due a $750,000 roster bonus in the offseason.

With moves the Cardinals have done with Hicks’ and Hudson’s contracts, they now have created more than $10 million in cap space.
