The Arizona Cardinals have not yet signed any of their 11 draft picks to contracts yet but their top pick could be signing soon. According to the Arizona Republic’s Bob McManaman, we should “expect a deal to get finalized between Kyler Murray and the Cardinals in the coming days.”
Traditionally, the Cardinals have signed their draft picks from lowest draft status to highest. However, last year, quarterback Josh Rosen was the first to ink a deal, getting it done before rookie minicamp began.
It appears the Cardinals will continue that trend with their top pick this year.
Murray’s contract is expected to be worth more than $36 million over four seasons. It will be fully guaranteed and much of it will come up front in a signing bonus.
Some have concerns about what might happen if Murray, who was drafted in the first round in Major League Baseball as well, decided to return to baseball. The Cardinals cannot put a non-baseball clause in the deal, but general manager Steve Keim said in an interview with Rich Eisen the team would have protections if Murray decided to return to baseball.
The Cardinals open rookie minicamp next weekend Friday through Sunday. A deal, if coming in the next few days, will likely be announced just before it begins.
