MILWAUKEE _ Veteran Cardinals third baseman Jhonny Peralta, off to a .120 start with no runs batted in, has been placed on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to April 16 because of an upper respiratory problem, the club announced Thursday afternoon before its game here with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Left-hander Tyler Lyons, who had been on the disabled list and had made three minor league rehab starts at Class AAA Memphis as he continued his recovery from offseason knee surgery, was activated, giving the Cardinals 13 pitchers _ at least for the moment.
Lyons, who last pitched on Monday, allowed only two runs in 14 innings over his minor league starts.
Greg Garcia and Jedd Gyorko, who is playing Thursday night, are likely to share the third-base spot in the absence of the 34-year-old Peralta, who last played on April 15. Garcia, who played shortstop Wednesday as the Cardinals completed a three-game sweep of Pittsburgh, is batting .227 but has a .370 on-base percentage. Gyorko, who started at third Wednesday, is hitting .226 with two homers.
