Cardinals hope to win fourth straight game over Buccaneers

The Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers play each other for only the 21st time since 1977. The Cardinals have won more than they have lost against the Bucs and have experienced recent success against them.

When the two teams face one another this weekend, it will be the third time in four years they play one another. The Cardinals are riding a three-game winning streak in the all-time series. In fact, the Cardinals haven’t lost to the Buccaneers since 2010.

The Cardinals hold an 11-9 overall advantage in the all-time series. They are 5-6 in Tampa.

Let’s go back and revisit the last three games between the two teams.

This was running back Adrian Peterson’s debut with the Cardinals after coming via trade from the New Orleans Saints. He made his impact immediately. He had a 27-yard touchdown run in the first possession of the game and finished with 134 yards and two scores. Carson Palmer threw three touchdown passes and only four incomplete passes.

Jameis Winston started the game but left with an injured shoulder. Ryan Fitzpatrick came off the bench and threw three touchdown passes but was picked off twice. The Cardinals had a 31-6 lead entering the fourth quarter but the Bucs put up 27 fourth-quarter points to make things interesting.

The Cardinals blew out the Bucs after a disappointing loss to the New England Patriots in Week 1. The defense picked off four Jameis Winston passes. Two were by Marcus Cooper, who took over the starting cornerback job that day. Carson Palmer had 317 passing yards and three touchdowns in the win.

2013: Cardinals 13, Buccaneers 10

This was the Cardinals’ first road win under Bruce Arians. They had to rally from a 10-0 halftime deficit. They overcame two Carson Palmer interceptions and had 13 fourth-quarter points. Patrick Peterson had two interceptions of Mike Glennon, including one in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
