HOUSTON _ Two separate and unrelated surgeries this week will influence the Cardinals for the remainder of this season and possibly seasons to come.
Matt Holliday will have surgery to stabilize the fracture in his right thumb, and the recovery from the surgery could take him through or close to the end of this season. Holliday fractured the thumb Thursday in Chicago when he was hit by a pitch. Holliday will have the surgery Wednesday in St. Louis.
Seth Maness, added to the disabled list Tuesday morning with an elbow strain, will have elbow reconstructive surgery Thursday in St. Louis.
The ligament tear means he'll miss the next 10 to 12 months.
The surgeries were announced by general manager John Mozeliak.
