The Arizona Cardinals will have much more salary cap space to use in 2020 than they have in years. We now know roughly how much.
According to multiple reports, the salary cap for 2020 will go up as much as $13 million.
This year’s number is $188.2 million. If it goes up to only $196.8 million, it would only be an increase of $8.6 million. Going up to $201.2 million would be a $13 million jump. It means that it could mark the seventh consecutive year in which the salary cap increases at least $10 million.
What does this mean for the Arizona Cardinals?
According to Over The Cap, they have a little more than $129.1 million committed in contracts in 2020. They will have as much as $72.1 million to work with in the offseason, in addition to any carryover space from this year.
Based on Over The Cap’s numbers, the Cardinals have more than $1.9 million in unused cap space, so they could have as much as $74 million next year.
Of course, they only have 37 players under contract next year. It is a significant amount of cap space, but it isn’t exactly a blank check.
They have player to re-sign. Free agency can eat of that space in a hurry.
However, it is much more money than they have had in years.
It should lead to an interesting offseason.
