Cardinals have dilemma at right tackle if Justin Murray can’t play vs. 49ers

The Arizona Cardinals have listed starting right tackle Justin Murray on the final injury report as officially questionable for the Thursday night game against the San Francisco 49ers. He has a knee injury that kept him out of practice on Monday and Tuesday. He was limited on Wednesday and is considered a gametime decision to play.

If he is unable to go, the Cardinals have a bit of a dilemma at right tackle.

If Murray ends up being inactive, they might not have a true backup tackle.

They could have rookie Joshua Miles start at right tackle but then there would be no other true tackle on the roster to play if anything were to happen.

They could have Mason Cole start at right tackle, but he himself has admitted that the position has probably outgrown him. He is an interior lineman now despite playing tackle in college.

Either way, it is less than ideal. Cole isn’t really a tackle and Miles is a rookie. He has promise but that doesn’t mean he is ready to try and stop Dee Ford and Nick Bosa.

If Murray is well enough to be active and can play in an emergency, then it will be less dire. It still isn’t good, but at least they will have a tackle on the bench.

The inactive lists will be announced a few minutes before 4 p.m.
