The Arizona Cardinals have turned the page on their dreadful 2018 season. They did it very quickly after the season. They fired Steve Wilks, had interviews and within a little more than a week had a new coach in Kliff Kingsbury.
In the first episode of this offseason’s docuseries “Cardinals Flight Plan,” fans get an idea as to how quickly they moved after the season.
Team president Michael Bidwill spoke on the afternoon after he spoke with Wilks, letting him know he was fired.
“When you’ve made a mistake, you are best off to admit it, fix it and do it right away,” he said.
“I have that sense of urgency. We already have interviews lined up.”
That was within a few hours of firing Wilks.
He also knew the direction they were going. “I think now that we have a franchise quarterback, we’re going to look at offense.”
Now it is the Kliff Kingsbury show and the Cardinals have set their coaching staff. They moved quickly. Instead of being the last team to hire someone, as they were each of the last two times they have had to find a new coach, they were the first to formally announce the hiring.
Will it make a difference? That remains to be seen. But the team has a direction and a focus. They don’t want to wait for success. They want to go get it.
