Cardinals first-team defense bends but forces turnover in only drive

The Arizona Cardinals played their starting defense for only one series. It didn’t look good but got a great result. The Los Angeles Chargers marched down the field but turned the ball over.

The Chargers, in the game’s opening drive, pretty much did what they wanted to do offensively. They moved 73 yards in eight plays and got to the two-yard line.

Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor completed both of his pass attempts for 21 yards. He also had a 23-yard scramble.

Austin Ekeler rushed for 21 yards on his first three carries. In all, the Cardinals defense 52 rushing yards in the first drive.

However, linebacker Jordan Hicks forced Ekeler to fumble at the two and also recovered it.

The defense got shredded but got the turnover.

Good result but bad execution.

It was only one preseason defensive series, but considering the defense was dead last in run defense in 2018, it will be something to watch in the games to come.
