Cardinals expected to sign former 1st-round pick WR Kevin White

The Arizona Cardinals are expected to add a wide receiver in free agency. The crop of available free agents is thin, so they are taking a chance on a player who had high expectations in the league but things just haven’t worked out.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, they are expected to sign former first-round pick Kevin White to a one-year contract.

White was the No. 7 overall pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2015 draft but injuries have been an issue for him. He missed the entire 2015 season and has only appeared in 14 games since then in three seasons. He played in a career-high nine games in 2018 but he had only four catches all season.

His best season in terms of production was in 2016 when he had 19 receptions for 187 yards.

He has had two leg fractures and fractured shoulder blade, but last year, even when healthy, he could not get on the field.

White had a huge final season in college, catching 109 receptions for more than 1,400 yards in 2014. He is 6-3 and fast, recording a 4.35-second 40-yard dash.

Arizona is taking a chance on another injury-riddled player hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. He will have the opportunity with no proven production outside of Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk.
