Cardinals end up trading Josh Rosen for cents on the dollar

Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim said after the first round of the 2019 draft, “We’re not going to get in the business of just letting good football players walk out of here.” He referred to his 2018 first-round pick, quarterback Josh Rosen.

However, by Friday night, he had dealt Rosen to the Miami Dolphins after being unable to get a first-round pick for him on Thursday.

The Cardinals got the 62nd overall pick in this year’s draft and a 2020 fifth-round pick from Miami in exchange for Rosen. That is nowhere near what the Cardinals had to give up in order to draft him 10th overall a year ago. To move up to that slot, they gave up a pick apiece in the third and fifth rounds to move up five spots.

So in total, they used a first, third, and fifth-round pick to get him. They got only a second-round pick and a future fifth-rounder in return.

If the Cardinals were looking for value in the trade, they didn’t get it.
