Cardinals designate Chase Edmonds, others to return from IR

The Arizona Cardinals opened the week hoping they could get some injured starters back this week for their huge Week 14 matchup on Monday night against the Los Angeles Rams.

They announced moves that make that possibility closer to a reality.

The Cardinals designated running back Chase Edmonds, long snapper Aaron Brewer and safety Charles Washington for return from injured reserve.

This allows them to return to practice and opens a 21-day window in which they must be activated or they will revert to IR for the remainder of the season.

Edmonds missed the last three games with an ankle injury. Brewer injured his arm and has missed three games. Washington hurt his hamstring in Week 3 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and has been on injured reserve since then.

Defensive tackle Rashard Lawrence was designated to return last week.

The Cardinals also activated running back Jonathan Ward from the COVID list. He missed three games with a concussion and a fourth after testing positive for the virus.

If Edmonds can return for the game this week, he will bolster both the running game and the passing game. Lawrence would improve the run defense. Brewer would settle the kicking game. Over the last two games, the  Cardinals have missed three kicks and had to abort another on a bad snap.

Ward and Washington coming back will bolster special teams.

Based on reports from those in attendance for the open part of Thursday’s practice, left guard Justin Pugh, who has missed the last three games with a calf injury, was on the field for practice, suggesting he could possibly return this week as well, which is good, as he often must block the Rams’ Aaron Donald.

In a smaller move, the Cardinals re-signed running back Tavien Feaster to the practice squad.
