Cardinals DE Chandler Jones sneaks up on Jimmy Garoppolo at grocery store

Jimmy Garoppolo wandered too far from his offensive line. The 49ers’ quarterback was doing some shopping when Cardinals defensive end Chandler Jones ran up behind him.

Jones posted video of the encounter on Twitter.

It’s unclear when this interaction took place. Jones posted the video Tuesday afternoon, shortly after Garoppolo was at the team facility for his press conference and practice.

Jones and Garoppolo were teammates in New England for two years before Jones was traded to Arizona.

The 49ers are hoping it isn’t this easy for the defensive end to get to their quarterback Thursday night. San Francisco will likely still be working with backup tackles Justin Skule and Daniel Brunskill, although there’s some hope Joe Staley will retake his left tackle spot.

Jones had a big couple of games against San Francisco last year. He recorded six tackles, two tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the two Arizona wins. Garoppolo didn’t play in either of those games, though.

In their only matchup, Jones had a sack and two quarterback hits in a Patriots win over Arizona in 2016. That was Garoppolo’s first NFL start and Jones’ first game as a member of the Cardinals.
