Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury coaches ‘like a player,’ says J.R. Sweezy

So far, what we know about new Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is he seems to be much calmer about things than his two predecessors. Bruce Arians and Steve Wilks were loud on the field and intense. Arians was also known for his foul language while he coached.

Veteran guard J.R. Sweezy is new to the team, so he doesn’t know how things were, but he has been impressed with Kingsbury, who has previously never coached in the NFL.

“It’s cool. He’s like a player,” he told reporters this week. “He talks to you easy — the situations, this and that, it’s easy. It comes easy to him. He’s a great coach.”

David Johnson called him “a player’s coach” this week as well.

Sweezy, though, noted it doesn’t feel like it is a situation where it is a new coach.

“I think it’s been pretty smooth,” he said. “I wouldn’t guess that this is the first year. It all feels like it’s moving and I’m just hopping into it.”

This is a great sign. But, of course, he likely wouldn’t say anything much different if it weren’t really the case.

However, the most important thing now is that there appear to be positive returns thus far with Kingsbury and his staff. That’s all anyone can expect at this point.
