Cardinals claim former Broncos LB Jeff Holland off waivers

The Arizona Cardinals filled their final roster vacancy with a player they were awarded from a waiver claim. The team announced Monday they acquired linebacker Jeff Holland, who was cut by the Denver Broncos.

Holland is reunited with defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who coached him in 2018.

Holland plays outside linebacker at 6-2 and 249 pounds. He spent most of last season on the Broncos practice squad but was promoted to the active roster, played in three games and collected six tackles.

Broncos Wire site editor Jon Heath says Holland was a fan favorite in 2018 preseason. He picked up two sacks last preseason but he became expendable with the emergence of Malik Reed this year, who has eight tackles and two sacks in the preseason. It was a bit of a surprise when he was cut.

Holland played collegiately at Auburn before entering the league as an undrafted rookie. In 2017, he had 45 tackles, 10 sacks and four forced fumbles.

He now joins a heated competition at outside linebacker, where Andre Branch, Vontarrius Dora, Pete Robertson and Cameron Malveaux all are already battling for one or perhaps two roster spots at their position.
