Cardinals claim CB Javelin Guidry off waivers

A day after trading for a new cornerback on roster cutdown day, the Arizona Cardinals have added another. They were awarded a waiver claim on former New York Jets cornerback Javelin Guidry, according to the NFL transaction report for waiver claims.

Guidry played for the Jets for two seasons after signing with them as an undrafted rookie out of Utah in 2020.

He split time between the practice squad and the active roster in 2020, appearing in 11 games, starting twice. In 2021, he played in all 17 regular-season games, starting three of them.

In 2020, he forced four fumbles to go with 22 total tackles. Last season, he had 33 tackles and three pass breakups.

He is 5-9 and 191 lb and is extremely fast. He clocked a 4.29-second 40 coming out of college.

He adds depth to the cornerback room.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, to make room for Guidry, the Cardinals released rookie cornerback Christian Matthew, one of their seventh-round draft picks this year. He initially made the roster after a solid preseason and is a candidate to be signed to the practice squad if he goes unclaimed off waivers on Thursday.
