Cardinals CB Patrick Peterson among players recruited by Cowboys’ DeMarcus Lawrence

NFL free agency will not begin for another two months but that doesn’t mean players aren’t already trying to make things happen. Using social media and personal conversations, players manage to avoid rules against tampering to try and recruit other players to their teams.

Dallas Cowboys pass rusher DeMarcus Lawrence is among them. With the news of the coming release of star defensive end J.J. Watt from the Houston Texans, Lawrence almost immediately went to Twitter to try and let Watt know he should join him in Dallas.

Once released, Watt will be free to sign with any team, even before the start of the new league year because his contract will have been terminated.

However, Lawrence didn’t stop with Watt. He also tweeted at Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson, who, barring a contract extension or franchise tag, will be a free agent in March.

Peterson’s name came up in a recent rumor that he and the team were set to split, although he himself debunked that as a “dirty rumor.

Peterson very well could join the Cowboys. He will be a free agent. He would actually be the type of player the Cowboys would add. He has star power. Adding Watt and Peterson to Dallas’ defense would be tremendous. The Cowboys’ defense was an issue a season ago.

As for Peterson, he had not “liked” the tweet when this article was published, so at least it appears to just be a player trying to do his part to improve his team’s roster, rather than Peterson trying to arrange things before free agency begins.
