The Arizona Cardinals entered the offseason with a healthy amount of salary cap space. They have almost used it all up.
According to Over the Cap as of this publishing, the Cardinals had under $9 million in cap space left.
They have been busy. They acquired receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who has a $12.5 million cap hit. Running back Kenyan Drake was given the transition tag. Kicker Zane Gonzalez was given a second-round tender as a restricted free agent. They also signed defensive lineman Jordan Phillips, linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and linebacker Devon Kennard to free agent deals.
What is left is $8.8 million in cap space. That will also be reduced a little once the numbers for offensive lineman Marcus Gilbert’s contract are figured in.
The Cardinals are not likely going to sign anyone else of significance. They do have a few options to increase cap space. They have a couple of contracts they can restructure. Linebacker Haason Reddick is a trade candidate. Cornerback Patrick Peterson could get a contract extension that reduces his cap hit in 2020.
General manager Steve Keim has done well, it appears. Now he needs to make sure he has enough cap space for the season.
