Cardinals' Bruce Arians says QB Carson Palmer could still play vs. 49ers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. _ Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer, currently in concussion protocol after being knocked out of a 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams this past weekend, could still play against the 49ers on Thursday night, coach Bruce Arians said Tuesday.

Speaking with Bay Area reporters via conference call, Arians said Palmer has to clear protocol to play but likes how he is progressing.

"I just left a meeting with him and he looked good, so we'll have to wait and see," Arians said. "I think there's a chance (he can make it through the protocol in time)."

Arians addressed a report that he spoke to Palmer's wife on Monday to assess how his quarterback was doing.

"You get more information from a wife than you ever do from a player, that's for sure," he said. "You're not going to get the real truth from a football player. He's always going to tell you he's ready, he's OK. I was counting on her to tell me what it was really like."

If Palmer is unable to play Thursday night at Levi's Stadium, backup Drew Stanton will get the call.
