Cardinals bring in veteran CB Dre Kirkpatrick for visit

The Arizona Cardinals have signed two cornerbacks and placed Robert Alford on injured reserve, but it appears they are not done looking for ways to address the cornerback position. In addition to signing Ken Crawley and B.W. Webb, the are taking a look at Dre Kirkpatrick.

According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, citing the league’s tryout/visit list on Friday, the Cardinals had Kirkpatrick in for a visit.

Kirkpatrick is entering his ninth NFL season, having played his entire career thus far with the Cincinnati Bengals. He has been a full-time starter the last five seasons but played only six games last year and finished the season on injured reserve with a hyperextended knee.

He has length at 6-2 and has 10 career interceptions. Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was his position coach for two seasons with the Bengals.

If he were to sign, he would likely be the favorite to start at cornerback in place of Alford, and his addition would allow Byron Murphy to play in the slot.

However, his asking price might get in the way. The Cardinals only have a little more than $5 million in cap space currently.
