Cardinals anticipate potential waiver wire pickups during summer break

The Arizona Cardinals are officially on their summer break, with non-rookie players off until training camp begins. However, that doesn’t mean the front office is done working with the roster.

In the latest episode of the team docuseries Flight Plan, general manager Steve Keim meets with his player personnel department and tries to formulate a plan for movement during the weeks off.

“The one thing we have to do once we take this well-deserved break is we have to make sure the lines of communication and our ability to track the waiver wire system stays on point,” he said. “We know it all slows down at some point in late June and early July, but there will still be some names on the wire that we can continue to track and focus throughout the summer.”

Arizona has been active with the waiver wire. They most recently picked up tackle Desmond Harrison. Previously, they added Tanner Vallejo, D.J. Swearinger and Pharoh Cooper.

Last year at this time, it was when things got tricky in the front office. Keim got hit with a DUI arrest and was suspended by the team for five weeks. Hopefully, during this break there are no missteps and the personnel department can land the players they want that get cut.

Keep an eye out for any players getting cut by other teams to see if the Cardinals claim them. Because they are No. 1 in waiver priority, they get anyone and everyone they want to get.
