Cardinals among Patrick Peterson’s preferred teams in free agency

The Arizona Cardinals have not yet announced a deal with soon-to-be free agent cornerback Patrick Peterson. He has publicly stated on multiple occasions he wants to remain with the team. He would like to finish his career with the Cardinals.

Of course, the part we don’t know is what his asking price is. Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill has suggested Peterson and other veterans will need to work with the team on compensation because of the decreased salary cap this year.

That said, Peterson still would prefer to stay with the Cardinals.

According to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss, Peterson has a list of three preferred teams to join this offseason as he becomes a free agent this week.

One is the Cardinals and the other two are teams that have made the playoffs the last two seasons.

One would figure to be the Kansas City Chiefs, who were in the Super Bowl the last two years and where his friend and former teammate Tyrann Mathieu has played.

Peterson will turn 31 this season and has seen a little decline in his game. He was still the Cardinals’ best cover guy but there were times he did get beaten fairly badly.

There has been no news other than this tidbit from Weinfuss. What is most important is that a return to the Cardinals is not out of the question. We will surely know what will happen in the next few days.
