Cardinals already compliant with new Rooney Rule adjustments

In an effort to promote greater diversity, the NFL has expanded the Rooney Rule, according to ESPN. With the new guidelines, instead of simply requiring that teams interview at least one minority candidate for head coaching and general manager positions, the league now requires that “a female or a member of an ethnic or racial minority” be an assistant on the offensive staff.

The Arizona Cardinals are already in compliance with new guidelines.

They already have multiple minority coaches on the offensive staff.

The Cardinals have four Black coaches on the offensive staff — running backs coach James Saxon, receivers coach Shawn Jefferson, offensive assistant Don Shumpert and Jordan Hogan, who is on the Bill Bidwill fellowship, working with quarterbacks.

They have an unfilled offensive quality control position, with Jim Dray leaving to become tight ends coach for the Chicago Bears.

The Cardinals have a long history of promoting diversity among the coaching ranks and front office. The fact they will not have to change anything to comply to these new guidelines shows that they are where they should be at when it comes to a diverse coaching staff.
