Cardinals add Don Shumpert, Rusty McKinney to coaching staff

The Arizona Cardinals announced a pair of additions to their coaching staff on Tuesday. They added Rusty McKinney and Don Shumpert.

Shumpert becomes the third Bill Bidwill Coaching Coaching Fellowship After Levon Kirkland in 2015-2016 and Terry Allen the last two years.

The fellowship was established in 2015 to “increase diversity and provide more opportunities to gain coaching experience at the highest level,” according to the team’s press release.

Shumpert will be an assistant running backs coach with the Cardinals. He was a receiver in the NFL for the Chicago Bears and Kansas City Chiefs. Last season, he was an offensive assistant for the New York Giants.

McKinney was named as a defensive assistant. He was over defensive quality control from 2016-2018 with the Miami Dolphins, so he has already worked with Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. Joseph was Miami’s defensive coordinator in 2016. McKinney was also a coaching intern for the Cleveland Browns in 2014-2015. He spent five years at the collegiate level at Bentley University.
