Cardinals’ 3rd straight win does nothing in latest power rankings

The Arizona Cardinals are on a bit of a small roll right now. They are 3-3-1 and have won their last three ballgames, two of which were on the road. Most recently, they defeated the New York Giants 27-21.

However, this did nothing for them in USA TODAY’s latest power rankings.

Entering Week 8 and coming off their third consecutive win, the Cardinals did not move. They remain at No. 26.

CB Patrick Peterson finally returns, and Arizona picks off its first pass of 2019 (courtesy LB Jordan Hicks). Funny how that works.

They are now, though, ranked ahead of every team they have beaten. The Giants dropped from 25th to 27th. The Atlanta Falcons are 29th and the Cincinnati Bengals are 31st, ahead of only the Miami Dolphins.

Next up for the Cardinals is a tough test. They will face the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 8. They are the second-highest ranked team in this week’s power rankings, trailing only the undefeated New England Patriots.

As for the NFC West, the L.A. Rams move up five spots to No. 13 after a win over the hapless Falcons. The Seattle Seahawks fell four slots to No. 12 after their loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The undefeated San Francisco 49ers remain unchanged at No. 4.
