Cardinals 2019 countdown: 91 days until Week 1

The Arizona Cardinals are 91 days (13 weeks) from their season opener against the Detroit Lions. With 91 days remaining in our countdown, we focus on a statistic for the No. 91.

Today’s stat for the No. 91 is another receiving total for a season.

It was in 1987, the team’s final season in St. Louis before moving to Arizona. Receiver J.T. Smith had a big season, catching 91 passes from quarterback Neil Lomax, good for 1,117 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He led the NFL in receptions and receiving yards.

It is the 14th-best season in team history for catches in a season. However, at the time, it set a team record.

Cardinals fans in Arizona missed out. Smith was 33 by the time he played in Arizona and retired in 1990.
