Cardiff vs Liverpool LIVE result: James Milner penalty secures 2-0 victory to keep title challenge on track

Follow the latest updates live as Liverpool look to return to the top of the Premier League table as they take on relegation-threatened Cardiff City.

After reaching the Champions League semi-finals with ease in mid-week, Liverpool return to domestic duties looking to re-take their place at the top of the table, following Manchester City’s victory over Tottenham on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s side will have played a game more than City come the end of the day, but with the Manchester derby next week, Liverpool can ill-afford to drop any points.

Cardiff pose a serious threat to Liverpool though after their 2-0 win over Brighton in mid-week reignited their survival chances, and a victory would incredibly draw them level with the Seagulls with three games to play. Follow the live action below.

Good afternoon and welcome to The Independent's live coverage of today's Premier League late-afternoon kick-offs, where Arsenal host Crystal Palace at the Emirates and Cardiff City welcome title-chasing Liverpool to Wales.

Team news will be due out at 3pm, with the line-ups to come as soon as they're released.

TEAM NEWS: ARSENAL VS CRYSTAL PALACE

TEAM NEWS: CARDIFF CITY VS LIVERPOOL

Well, the action continues here at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Liverpool can afford nothing less than a win following Manchester City's 1-0 win over Tottenham yesterday, and they may need demonstrate a similarly determined performance as Guardiola's men yesterday.

That's because their hosts today are still in the middle of a relegation battle, but Cardiff's fears were eased slightly by their 2-0 win at Brighton in midweek.

Arsenal will also be looking to take advantage of Man Utd's humiliation at Everton, as they face a Palace side who upset Man City at the Etihad earlier in the season.
It's an even bigger afternoon for Arsenal now.
The prize on display.

"No obvious weaknesses for Liverpool" says Graeme Souness as Jordan Henderson starts at the base of the midfield.

Cardiff have not beaten a top half side at home all season, but is this where Liverpool's grip on the title loosens?
Teams are out at both the Cardiff City Stadium and the Emirates.

A huge afternoon at both ends of the table.
1 min: Cardiff City 0-0 Liverpool

And we're underway in Wales! Can Liverpool go back top of the league with a win here?
1 min: Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

Underway at the Emirates as well now.
1 min: Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

Mesut Ozil has a chance in the first minute, but his long-range effort is straight at the keeper.
5 min: Cardiff 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool understandably dominating the opening exchanges, with Firmino having struck wide from an offside position.
5 min: Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

Dangerous free-kick from Palace, and Guendouzi does well to block a shot after it is cleared.

A warning sign for Arsenal.
When you see your favourite Easter egg..

10 min: Cardiff 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool are yet to really get going in terms of their incisive play, while Oumar Niasse has done well to cause a few problems for the Liverpool defence.
10 min: Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

Same can be said for Arsenal really, but Elneny blazes over a half chance after Lacazette controlled Jenkinson's ball in.

Cagey opening exchanges in both matches so far.
13 min: Cardiff 0-0 Liverpool

That's a first opportunity for Liverpool, and it is rather wasteful from Mane.

He receives the ball in all kinds of space 25 yards from goal but blazes it well over unmarked.
14 min: Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

Good chance this for Palace. A corner finds Dann unmarked at the back post, and he tries to head it back across goal, but Kelly cannot direct the effort on target under the challenge of Mustafi.

The visitors have started well here.
16 min: Cardiff 0-0 Liverpool

Good work down the left from the visitors, who whip in a ball to the back post, and only poor control from Hoilett stops the hosts from registering a shot on target.
Looks like Guendouzi's hair isn't the problem so far.
