Cardiff today: Term ends, Black Friday and Christmas countdown begins

Merry Christmas Cardiff!

Today the holiday season officially starts – as all council schools break up for Christmas. You can see all the school term dates here – schools will return on Tuesday 4 January.

Guardian Cardiff will also be in Christmas mode as from today. We'll have a new blogpost on the blog each day – but if you send emails or tweets we won't be able to get back to you until the New Year. Happy Christmas readers! Leave your comments in the section below.

What's on today?

Cardiff-based six-piece band Among Brothers will host a launch party for their new EP Hones which is out on Cardiff record label Barely Regal Records from 24 January 2011. A few CDs will be available at the launch event tonight at Clwb Ifor Bach, and Among Brothers will play a set, supported by Lucky Delucci and Meilir.

Today is known as Black Friday - and thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the city for last minute shopping and parties. We'll have a report on the blog this morning looking at some of the community safety partnerships in place.
