What's making Cardiff tick today?
Yesterday marked the launch across the UK of the countdown to the 2012 Olympics, and with Cardiff's Millennium Stadium playing host to the some of the games from football tournament, South Wales Police force have already started planning by attending a training event last week to prepare for heat waves, traffic problems and terrorist attacks.
Superintendent Steve Furnham said:
"We have a wealth of experience in policing major events, and contributing towards the policing of the legendary Olympic and Paralympic games will be another opportunity for us to show our professionalism as a police service.
"Our aim is to be visible, supportive and reassuring, so that the 2012 summer of celebration can remain focused on the enjoyment of sport and not the security operation."
Council leader Rodney Berman has said he will continue as council leader despite calls from Cardiff north MP Jonathan Evans for him to stand down. Read the report on WalesOnline here.
