Cardiff today: Oktoberfest, edible landscaping, and a day for older people

Good morning Cardiff!

This afternoon the economy and culture scrutiny committee with meet at 4.30pm at County Hall. The agenda includes plans for the 2012 Olympics.

Today Oktoberfest starts at Buffalo Bar running through to 10 October celebrating the Bavarian custom with a huge selection of German beers alongside their usual line-up of musical delights. Find out more here.

Tonight Rhodri Morgan, the former first minister and current Assembly Member for Cardiff West, will give a lecture at Cardiff University in celebration of United Nations international day for older people. Find out the details here.

Tonight at the centre for lifelong learning in Cathays a course in edible landscaping will start from 7pm – showing you how to plant and nourish an edible garden including fruit trees. This is the first of ten weekly meetings – find out more here.

What's making Cardiff tick today?

On WalesOnline, Julie Morgan has backed Ed Miliband throughout his campaign and now says she hopes Cardiff North will become a labour constituency once more with the new leader in place, while the Lib Dem constituency Cardiff Central is being strongly defended by local councillor Nigel Howells.

BBC Worldwide has confirmed it's going to close it's three regional Doctor Who exhibitions and open a bigger and better one in Cardiff. Read more on Let's Talk Sci-Fi here.
