Cardiff today: new council chief executive and St Mellons protest

Good morning Cardiff!

Members of the Cardiff Socialist party will stage a protest today at 2.30pm outside Vinci Construction UK in St Mellons in opposition to violence used to break up an environmental protest in Moscow.

The campaigners in Russia are opposing the construction of a road through one of the major greenbelt forests near Moscow. Joe Higgins MEP has written a letter demanding an explanation from the Russian government following recent brutal attacks against protesters and has called for international protest action against Vinci Construction.

Also today the new chief executive for Cardiff Council Jon House will begin his time with the local authority. He starts his first day touring some of the sections and service of the council and we'll bring you the latest from his first public visits around Cardiff.

At 7pm tonight it's the Fairwater partnerships and communities together meeting at Pentrbane Community Centre, Beechley Drive. Find out more on ourbobby.com.

With the beginning of September also brings a number of new happenings and events to look forward to in the next month – we'll have more on the blog later today, but let us know what' you'll be up to in comments below.
