New film, The Acid Real, premieres at Cardiff Arts Institute. Set in Cardiff, the film is based on the book by John Evans. Evans said:

"The film is a postmodern documentary, a journey through Cardiff and the South Wales Valleys. The Acid Real juxtaposes urbanisation with the natural world, and hopelessness and alienation against beauty and the power of love. It shows how the local has now become the international and the international has become the local.

"There's the glitter, neon, and bustle of Cardiff Bay at night, and the empty grey terraced rows of the valleys. Dilapidated shopping precincts and glitzy new retail parks contrasted by nightjars at dusk on a valleys hillside, and red kites floating over the mountain tops. Soldiers and civilians dying in the heat of the desert while young couples walk hand in hand through lush green fields."

Wales Green Party have said Cardiff Council's boasts about recycling and treatment of waste from the city are embarrassing. Green party member Matt Townsend says:

"When we criticised the council for sending waste to Derbyshire we were promised by the Lib Dem council leader that within a year we would have a plant in Cardiff to compost it locally. Two years later and they are taking it to Gloucester instead. They should be embarrassed about this latest news, not boasting about it. Everyone thinks it's crazy to take lorry loads of old food to England every week - how out of touch are our current councillors to think this is good news?"

Read the post on their blog here. Read our post on the news of the city's waste treatment location here.
