Cardiff today – Hailey park, city blog and political conference season starts

Good morning Cardiff

More protests are planned for today – including Libyan Cardiffians planning to take their plight to the Senedd. The Green party spring conference will kick off today in Cardiff – with leader of the Welsh Green party Jake Griffiths giving a keynote speech. Griffiths will be standing as lead Green candidate for South Wales Central, with the aim of becoming the first Green member of the Welsh Assembly on 5 May.

The conference will run at the Barcelo Hotel until Monday and is the start of the spring conference season in the capital – with the Conservative party conference due to take place in Cardiff next week from 4 March at the Swalec stadium.

Hywel Thomas a spokesperson for Cardiff & Co, the organisation charged with promoting the city said:

"We are naturally very pleased that the Green party has decided to bring its spring conference to Cardiff – further testament to the city's growing reputation as one of the UK's most popular conference locations.

"It seems fitting that this event is being held in a city recognised both for its excellent access by public transport and for its green and open spaces."

Today there will also be a psychic reading session at Cardiff central library and a fund raising quiz held at Cardiff charity Pedal Power headquarters from 7.30pm. See our community calendar for more details. Friends of Hailey Park will be holding conservation work in the park today and on 27 Februaryy find out the details here.
