Today Cardiff Council with Tidy Towns has launched a campaign to clamp down on car littering in the city – with fines up to £75 possible. The council is calling on residents to be vigilant and report roadside litterers to Connect 2 Cardiff. The campaign hopes to tackle litter from car drivers to reduce the amount of rubbish on the roadsides.
Executive member for environment, Margaret Jones, said:
"The aim of this Tidy Towns project is to try and raise awareness of the environmental damage that littering on our main roads can cause. We continue to see a minority of motorists dropping rubbish from their windows as they drive in and out of the city and by both spreading the message that littering is a crime and encouraging people to report what they see, we really hope this will lead to a significant reduction in the problem."
