Cardiff today - blogging councillors and spotlight on city development

Good morning Cardiff!

At County Hall today the Standard and Ethics committee meets at 4.30pm – one particularly interesting looking item on the agenda is the standards for 'blogs and twits' report (I may point out this should be 'tweets') – which advises councillors as to how to use these tools.

City Hall will host a careers event to inspire Muslim girls form Cathays and Cardiff High Schools in Cardiff. Cardiff-born BBC presenter Almeena Ahmed will be one of the speakers at the roadshow which is organised by National Muslim Women's Advisory Group and starts at 10.30am.

BBC Wales tonight will put Cardiff in the spotlight with a feature programme on development in the city and the controversial Local Development Plan. The show is titled "Starbucks and Stadiums" and starts at 10.35pm. The LDP is up for discussion at this week's full council meeting (read our report here) and Peter Cox has blogged on it here.

In the news, Olivier award winning Iwan Rheon will come to Cardiff when he plays Huw in National Theatre Wales's The Devil Inside Him at New Theatre from 6-15 March. Rheon won the Olivier award for his performance in Spring Awakening in London.

A new victims and witnesses champion has been appointed to Cardiff, reports Welsh Icons. Shelly Harrold will work alongside Safer Capitol partners to support those affected by anti-social behaviour to come forward.

South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to a traffic collision on Wellfield Road on Friday 5 March at 11.20am. A green Volvo collided with a Kawasaki motorcycle – both parties were injured and anyone with information is asked to call 029 20633438.

On WalesOnline motorists are getting fed up with the M4 clog-up.

Capture Cardiff features
the new IndyCube co-working complex. I'm going to spend part of my day working from here and I'll be heading down to Culverhouse Cross today to test out the new creative industry hub.

Buzz Magazine's Ten Things to do this Week
includes Cardiff Twestival at Buffalo on Thursday night (read our feature here). We'd also recommend PechaKucha at Chapter on Thursday – it's a little bit like Ignite Cardiff.

This pic of a Virgin media van crashing into a sign on Albany Road, circulated online yesterday, posted by Geoff Rogers (@foomandoonian) yesterday.

On Fix My Street Cardiff a report has been filed about illegal parking in residents-only parking bays. As a former Roath resident, I can vouch for this particular offence. This author suggests residents are given powers to issue parking tickets. What do you think?
