Cardiff students are invited to come along to a new series of online workshopping events taking place at the end of each month.
The first Cardiff Student Social Media Café will take place at Buffalo Lounge on Woodville Road on Thursday 27 January from 10am-12pm to give students a chance to discuss new media ideas and practise skills in online publishing and reporting.
The free workshops will run monthly as informal sessions for students to get creative with new online skills, pick the brains of social media experts, and brainstorm solutions to a problem posed at each event.
At the first event, held at the end of January, we'll be looking specifically at mapping tools on the web, how to use maps to illustrate a story, and how to find a solution to a problem using maps.
There'll be no talks and no jargon – the workshops are meant to be an accessible way to engage with new media tools while having a coffee and chatting about whatever's on your mind to do with new media and journalism.
To attend the event you need to sign up to the eventbrite page here, and if you can, bring along a laptop to Buffalo Lounge on the day. Make sure you use the hashtag #cssmc if you're tweeting about the event, and buy a drink while you're there to support the lovely people at Buffalo Lounge who are letting us use their venue (note – this is not the Buffalo Bar in the city centre).
Next Cardiff Bloggers Meet up - group blogs
Don't worry – if you're not a student make sure you get along to the next Cardiff Bloggers Meet-up – taking place on 1 February at 7pm at Pica Pica on Westgate Street – where a bunch of bloggers get together every couple of months to discuss blogging issues, have a drink and listen to a short talk.
This time we'll be listening to The Sprout and WalesHome tell us about their experiences running a group blog - find out more about the event and register for your free drink as sponsored by Warwick Emanuel PR & Film here.
Looking for social media help? Make sure you come to the next Cardiff Social Media Surgery – the date of which is due to be announced soon.
