Cardiff Starbucks given improvement notice over staff not wearing masks

A drive-thru Starbucks in Cardiff has been handed a coronavirus improvement notice over staff wearing masks.

The site at 376 Newport Road was handed the notice over Covid breaches following an inspection by the Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) on Wednesday, July 7.

Officers gave the improvement notice for issues regarding staff wearing personal protective equipment.

The notice said that they were found to be "failing to take any other reasonable measures which limit close face to face interaction and maintain hygiene such as: provided or required the use of personal protective equipment".

It adds that they were also "failing to take specific measures for hospitality premises" citing "ensuring that staff wear appropriate face coverings/PPE".

The coffee shop was given a number of measures to follow in order to comply with the regulations.

The notice said: "In my opinion, the following measures are necessary and proportionate in order to ensure you comply with the regulations:

"Ensure all staff members are wearing face coverings, whilst on the premises unless exempt.

"Ensure measures for exempt staff are included within the risk assessment."

The shop was given until Friday July 9 to comply with the measures. The full notice can be seen here.

Officers have the power to temporarily shut down businesses if they are found breaking coronavirus regulations.

It comes as Cardiff reported the most new positive cases on Thursday with 108.

The infection rate in the capital currently stands as 152.9 cases per 100,000, compared to Wales' infection rate of 117 cases per 100,000 population, based on the seven days between June 27 and July 3.
