Cardiff's former Jamie's Italian restaurant is being stripped out

Jamie's Italian restaurant in Cardiff city centre, which closed in May, is now being stripped out.

The restaurant, on The Hayes and part of St David's Shopping Centre, has been closed for around two months after the chain went into administration .

It was revealed at the time that 1,300 jobs would be put at risk.

The restaurant chain appointed administrators and the business lined up KPMG to handle the insolvency process.

At the time, Jamie Oliver tweeted: "I’m devastated that our much-loved UK restaurants have gone into administration.

"I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all of the people who have put their hearts and souls into this business over the years. "

Fast-forward two months and workers have been spotted moving goods out of the former restaurant.

On Friday morning the outside of the building was shut off and workers were putting boxes into lorries.

At the moment it is unclear what is exactly planned for the future of the vacant unit.

When asked about the empty space, a spokeswoman for St David's Shopping Centre said: "St David’s is always bringing new brands to the centre for the shoppers of Cardiff and beyond to enjoy.

"We have some exciting plans in the works which we hope to be able to announce soon.”
