Cardiff road will become one-way for almost a year

A busy Cardiff road is set to become one-way for almost a year while works are carried out.

Tudor Street in Riverside will become one-way for traffic for the next 11 months as part of a multi-million-pound scheme by Cardiff council.

The new scheme will see a number of improvements including; wider pavements for pedestrians, a new two-way segregated cycle lane; sustainable drainage with rain gardens; a new pedestrian crossing; new LED street lights and on-street parking for customers.

On Wednesday the council said the change is to ensure the improvement project is completed "on-time and on-budget".

The change will come into effect from Monday, August 2 and A diversion will be put in place.

Traffic will only be allowed to move away from the city, but a right turn from Fitzhamon Embankment will be permitted.

The council’s contractor, Knights Brown, is already on-site and the council say staff have visited shops and businesses on and around Tudor Street to tell them about the temporary arrangements to ensure that excavation works take place on-street to deliver the changes.

A Cardiff council statement said: "The improvements to the street scene on Tudor Street is part of a wider regeneration scheme which includes a shop front improvement project which is now entering its third phase and both of these projects are an investment of approximately £5m in the area, which is funded by both the council and Welsh Government."
