"Leighton was a gentleman through and through; kind, caring and full of jokes.

"After his family, music was his everything. That was closely followed by his horticultural talents and next year we hoped to exhibit at Chelsea Flower Show, something he would have loved.

"He was proud yet humble.

"Leighton was truly passionate about football, he would still play at the age of 63 even if it now took three days to recover.  During those recovery days he would revel in the opportunity to watch his favourite sport on TV.

"Always on the go and never sat still. We are numb with grief.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank those who fought so valiantly at the scene to save Leighton and ask that we are now given our privacy to grieve as a family."
