Cardiff manager Neil Warnock makes under-23s admission ahead of Man City game

Neil Warnock has confirmed that Cardiff City will not field their under-23 side in Wednesday night's Premier League game against Manchester City.

Warnock was left incensed after Cardiff's defeat against Chelsea at the weekend, with a pair of questionable refereeing decisions costing his side dear in their race for Premier League survival.

The Cardiff boss branded the officials in England's top tier 'the worst in the world' following the loss to Chelsea and joked he would "probably play the [under-]23s on Wednesday at Man City and then get ready for Burnley".

But the 70-year-old teased that his second string didn't fancy the journey north to Manchester.

“We haven’t got enough and none of the lads want to travel! So I’ve got to stick to the first team," he said.

Cardiff are five points adrift of safety at the foot of the table and Warnock was honest about his side's chances of securing victory at the Etihad.

“I think we’ve got Manchester City and then six winnable games," he said. "Let’s not use my comments as a defeatist attitude. I don’t want to go there and shut the shop up.

"Let’s go and have a go, I wanted to do that against Chelsea - although it turned out sour. That was another kick in the teeth and psychologically you’ve got to be strong to overcome that.

"I won’t know until I look at the faces on Wednesday night whether people aren’t up for it. Three or four players had knocks on Sunday, but they all want to play.

"One lad who I thought would definitely be out wants to do a bit of training and travel with us. It’s important we give a good account of ourselves.”
