Cardiff declare interest in signing Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne when transfer window opens

Cardiff City will be among the clubs trying to sign Nathaniel Clyne from Liverpool next month, according to Bluebirds manager Neil Warnock.

England full-back Clyne has been sidelined for most of the season with what the club have described as a hamstring problem. It has been another frustrating campaign for the defender who only played 184 minutes last season, missing the World Cup, having been plagued by injuries.

Trent Alexander-Arnold's emergence in Clyne's absence has meant the 27-year-old full-back has lost his place even when he recovers from injury and several Premier League clubs have been looking to take advantage.

But Warnock, who handed a teenaged Clyne his first senior start while at Crystal Palace, is the first to go public on his desire to sign the Liverpool man.

"I know Nathaniel well, I gave him his debut," Warnock said, ahead of Saturday's Premier League game with Watford.

"But the thing about that is they (Liverpool) have had a lot of injuries and they've got to look after themselves. It's very difficult to get clubs to commit.

"He (Clyne) would be one on our list, yes. We are looking at that position."
