Cardiff Council's highest earners revealed

Cardiff Council has revealed figures showing 2,432 of its workers earn £30,000 or more.

The figures obtained from a freedom of information request by Kenneth Thain comes after George Osborne announced a pay freeze on public sector workers earning £21,000 or more in the emergency budget yesterday.

The top job is the chief executive – soon to be – who is paid £176,376 with the corporate manager holding the second post at £107,088
The figures also show 623 employees are teachers earning £35,929 with six headteachers in the city earning more than £70,000.

Commenting on the information, Thain said: "Well then, looking at the result just goes to show exactly why our council taxes are so big."
