Cardiff council hands closure notices to three car washes over coronavirus breaches

A number of car wash companies in Cardiff have been handed closure notices over coronavirus breeches.

The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) gave improvement notices to three car wash sites across the city.

Officers have the power to temporarily shut down businesses if they are found breaking coronavirus regulations.

Enforcement officers handed All Star Car Wash in City Road a closure notice for "failing to take all reasonable measures to ensure a distance of two metres" between people on the premises not from the same household. The notice was handed to the business on March 3 and is in place until March 17.

Magic Hand Car Wash , also in City Road, was handed a closure notice by officers on March 5 that is in effect until March 19.

The SRS document says they failed to take "reasonable measures" to ensure social distancing and limit face-to-face interaction.

The final business handed a closure notice was Express Hand Car Wash in Ely Bridge.

Officers handed them the notice on March 8 and it will remain in place until March 22. A document by an SRS officer says they also failed to take "reasonable measures" to ensure social distancing and limit face-to-face interaction on site.

It comes as 12 new cases of the virus were confirmed in Cardiff in the latest data released on Thursday.

The infection rate in the capital increased slightly in the same data but remains under 40 per 100,000 of population.

The infection rate across Wales is now 43 cases per 100,000 of population based on the seven days up to March 6, a slight increase on a figure of 42 reported on Wednesday but still well below the 50 cases figure the Welsh Government had previously highlighted as a key benchmark in its lockdown planning.

The percentage of tests coming back with positive results is also continuing to head in the right direction and is now below the key 5% benchmark at 4.5% in the last seven days.
