Cardiff City working on deal to sign highly-rated Chidera Ejuke from CSKA Moscow

Cardiff City are working on a deal to sign highly-rated winger Chidera Ejuke.

The Nigerian international currently plays for CSKA Moscow but this time last year he took advantage of FIFA’s ruling to suspended his contract with the Russian side for the 2022/23 campaign because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with Hertha BSC. He made 21 appearances for the German outfit.

WalesOnline understands the Bluebirds are keen to bring him to south Wales for the term ahead and would be looking at temporary, one-year deal rather than a loan.

Cardiff are currently under a transfer embargo, meaning they cannot pay a fee for a player until the January transfer window.

It is understood Cardiff would need a visa and FIFA to agree to the move. The winger is out of contract in the Russian capital next summer.

A deal for Ejuke would represent an exciting move for Erol Bulut’s new-look team. When he made the switch to Russia from Dutch side Heerenveen the Moscow club paid a fee of €12million for him.

He started his career in his homeland before sealing a move to Norwegian football with Valerenga, where Heerenveen spotted his talents. At the time he reportedly chose a move to the Netherlands over Serie A sides Lazio and Roma.

WalesOnline also understands that two new signings will be in attendance at Tuesday night’s game against The New Saints at Cardiff City Stadium.

Ex-Chelsea striker Ike Ugbo is a prime target for the Bluebirds, with Bulut keen to add firepower to his squad ahead of the new season. Dimitrios Goutas, a defender who plays for Sivasspor in Turkey, is another player of interest.

Cardiff announced on Friday night that Mark Harris would be leaving the club, leaving Bulut with Callum Robinson, Kion Etete and Max Watters as his striker options.

Speaking after the 2-0 friendly win over Penybont on Saturday, Bulut said: "We are working on it. Of course, it’s not easy because we can do only free transfers. I hope in a short time that we can have some movements in that direction."
