Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told his Manchester United players never to be "outworked" while inspiring their 5-1 victory over Cardiff City.
Solskjaer was taking caretaker charge of United for the first time on Saturday having replaced Jose Mourinho earlier this week.
The Norwegian could hardly have asked for a better start to his second life at Old Trafford, with goals from Marcus Rashford, Ander Herrera, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard brace sealing victory.
United scored five goals for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson's last game in charge in 2013, though Solskjaer noted that his new assistant was
"Since Mick Phelan's last game," he noted. "[They're] good players, very, very good players, talented players. Today they've approached the game properly, they've worked hard.
"One of the things I talked about today is that a Manchester United team should never ever be outworked, doesn't matter what team you play, you should run more than them and then your skills will give you a chance of winning again.
"I said the same to these lads as I do back home in Molde, just work harder than them, enjoy yourselves, pass it forward, run forward.
"If you lose the ball I don't mind as long as you work to win it back and they did. When you've got players like this with the quality they're always going to create chances."
United's attacking quartet of Martial, Lingard, Rashford and Paul Pogba were particularly impressive, and Solskjaer could not help but highlight their contribution.
"I'm pleased with all of them," he added. "Every single one of them, but of course it's a threat.
"When you've got Martial and Jesse Lingard down either side, Rashford up top with Paul supporting them, it's exhilarating to watch and as long as we keep that standard up we'll keep up picking points."
