Cardiff City unfurl Peter Whittingham tribute banner at Leeds United match

Cardiff City have unveiled a banner in tribute to club legend Peter Whittingham for their clash with Leeds United.

The Bluebirds icon tragically passed away at the age of 35 in March after suffering a head injury as a result of a fall while at a pub in Barry.

Neil Harris' men return to Championship action against Marcelo Bielsa's side on Sunday in what is their first taste of action since Whittingham's devastating passing.

With no fans present at Cardiff City Stadium due to the coronavirus pandemic, seats have been occupied by flags and banners.

And the club unfurled a banner with the words “City loves you more than you will know” across a large section of seats in the Ninian Stand in tribute to Whittingham.

The central midfielder was also the main feature of the club's matchday programme for the fixture with the Elland Road outfit while a minute's applause was held before kick-off.

The midfielder made 459 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring 98 goals before leaving in 2017.
