Cardiff City transfers: Midfielder deal being 'finalised', Bluebirds star's social media exit hint and Celtic enter chase for Tottenham man

Here are your Cardiff City transfer headlines for Wednesday, June 23.

Robert Glatzel chased by HSV Hamburg

German second-tier club HSV Hamburg are reportedly in discussions with Cardiff City over a deal to sign Robert Glatzel.

The striker was signed by Neil Warnock back in the summer of 2019 for £5.5m from German outfit Heidenheim, however his time with the Bluebirds has been mixed.

It became abundantly clear early on in Mick McCarthy's reign that Glatzel did not have a future with the Bluebirds, with the manager shipping him off to Mainz for a loan move until the end of the season.

McCarthy subsequently stated that Glatzel was up for sale this summer, claiming the German was "not for him" and effectively ending his two-year stint with the Welsh capital city club.

Now, German outlet Bild report that Hamburg are in discussions with Cardiff City over signing the striker this summer.

It is claimed that a transfer fee of "around €500,000 (£428,000) is being discussed" between the two clubs with Hamburg looking to "strengthen their attack" after finishing fourth in Bundesliga 2 last term.

Glatzel also fuelled the rumours in Germany, with one eagle-eyed fan noticing that Hamburg is one of the few clubs he follows on Instagram.

Bluebirds on verge of third signing

Cardiff City are on the verge of making their third signing of the summer, according to Football League World.

The Welsh capital city outfit have already recruited James Collins and Mark McGuinness and now look set to add a midfielder to the fray.

It is reported that a deal for Ryan Wintle is being finalised, with the Crewe Alexandra midfielder becoming a free agent at the end of this month.

The 24-year-old made almost 200 appearances for Alex and was a crucial part of the side which earned promotion to League One in 2019/20, alongside Perry Ng, who made the switch to the Bluebirds back in January.

Cardiff already have Will Vaulks, Leandro Bacuna, Joe Ralls and Marlon Pack as midfield options.

Celtic emerge as suitors for Tottenham man

Scottish giants Celtic have emerged as potential suitors for Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Reports Stateside recently claimed that the Bluebirds were among a number of clubs after the centre back in this window, however the chances of landing him were remote owing to the £10m price tag Spurs had stuck on the former Swansea City and Bournemouth loanee.

Now, the same outlet, SBI Soccer, has claimed that Celtic have shown an interest in landing the USA international.

The reporter goes on to add that interest from Cardiff and Fulham has "quietened" - although quite how interested the Bluebirds were is another question.

January target seals Championship move

Former Cardiff City striker and January transfer target Cameron Jerome has sealed a move to Luton Town.

The forward enjoyed a decent spell at MK Dons and looked to have sealed a move back to Cardiff, the club with whom he made his name.

However, that all fell through in January, much to the player's disappointment, and he has had to wait until the summer to seal his move up from League One to the Championship with Luton.

“It wasn’t really a difficult decision, it was spoken about openly with Russell (Martin – manager)," Jerome said upon signing.

"We had an agreement with the chairman and the manager there that I was going to leave in January, but the club went back on their decision which was slightly disappointing.

“But it’s something that, as a professional, that can happen, you’ve just got to get on with it, take the rough with the smooth. Sometimes things don’t work out your way, you don’t always get you want, but you can’t get distracted, can’t get away from your goal and your focus and I believe I gave my all for the club from the minute I was there to the minute I left at the end of the season.

“So, it was always the goal to try and get back playing in the Championship and playing at the highest level that I believe I can still perform at.”

Hull City boss wants Gavin Whyte back

Hull City boss Grant McCann reportedly wants Cardiff City winger Gavin Whyte back at the KCOM Stadium following his loan stint at the back end of last season.

The Bluebirds winger was signed by Neil Warnock and was largely an everpresent under him. However, his game time was greatly reduced when Neil Harris arrived and he left for Hull back in January.

What Mick McCarthy's plans for the Northern Ireland international are remains to be seen, however HullLive believe McCann, whose side achieved promotion to the Championship this season, would have Whyte back in a flash.

"While McCann would understandably want the Northern Irish international back at the club following a decent, if not injury-hit loan spell last term, it remains to be seen what plans Mick McCarthy has for Whyte when he reports back for pre-season," they report.

"Whyte was allowed to leave South Wales by previous boss Neil Harris and McCarthy may well want a look at the £2m signing before making any decision."
