Cardiff City transfers: Bluebirds make second signing, battle Stoke City for midfielder and Celtic close in on Sunderland ace

Here are your Cardiff City transfer headlines for Monday, June 21.

Cardiff announce Arsenal starlet as second signing

Cardiff City have announced their second summer transfer with the arrival of Arsenal defender Mark McGuinness.

The 20-year-old centre-back joins the Bluebirds on a contract until 2024.

McGuinness is well known to Mick McCarthy, given his Irish connection and having represented the Republic of Ireland at under-21 level.

McGuinness joined the Gunners at the age of 10, however never managed to make a senior appearance for the club.

He spent last season on loan at League One outfit Ipswich Town and made 25 appearances in all competitions, netting once.

Upon signing, the defender said: "As soon as a club like Cardiff City were interested I was excited and I couldn't miss this opportunity."

Cardiff City linked with Blackburn Rovers ace

Cardiff City and Stoke City are reportedly interested in landing Blackburn Rovers midfielder Corry Evans.

The Bluebirds have been linked with a number of players in recent weeks, with Crewe Alexandra midfielder Ryan Wintle said to be on their radar.

However, Football Insider now claim that Mick McCarthy has set his sights on Northern Ireland international Evans.

Evans' contract at Ewood Park expires next month, so he would be available on a free transfer, which will certainly be an attractive prospect for the Bluebirds, who are looking to curb their spending this summer.

It is understood McCarthy likes all four of his current midfielder options - Marlon Pack, Leandro Bacuna, Joe Ralls and Will Vaulks - however the manager appears to be planning in the event one of them leaves.

The 30-year-old Evans, who has 65 international caps to his name, is a deep-lying midfielder and it was announced he will be released by Blackburn following 220 appearances for the Lancashire club.

Evans is a graduate of the Manchester United academy and is the brother of Leicester City centre back Jonny Evans.

Liverpool slap £10m price tag on Neco Williams

Liverpool will reportedly want £10m for defender Neco Williams, who it is said will be looking to leave Anfield permanently this summer.

The news comes as something as a shock given just last year he signed a five-year deal with the Merseyside outfit and is believed to be thought of incredibly highly at the club.

He has served as a more-than-capable understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold since making his debut back in 2019, however it was thought that he would seek a loan move away next term in order to gain some regular game time.

Both Cardiff City and Swansea City have been linked with a loan move for the Wales international wing back, while the Liverpool Echo has claimed Southampton, Leeds United, Aston Villa and Burnley have all made enquiries over a loan deal.

However, the Echo now claim that Williams wants to be playing week in, week out at the top level and will seek a permanent transfer away from the club following his exploits with Wales at Euro 2020.

They report that Liverpool would be willing to listen to offers in excess of £10m.

Williams has made 25 appearances for the club.

Sunderland star to Celtic expected this week

Sunderland striker and reported Cardiff City target Charlie Wyke is expected to complete a move to Celtic this week.

The forward had a prolific season with the Black Cats in League One this season and has scored 34 goals in 92 games since joining the club back in 2018.

Glasgow Live claim that Wyke has held fresh talks with the Scottish giants this week, having watched the England-Scotland game at Wembley before travelling up north of the border to iron out the details of his move.

The Bluebirds have been linked with a plethora of strikers across the English Football League, having already landed James Collins on a free following the end of his contract at Luton Town.

Other strikers continue to be mentioned along with Cardiff's name, however their striker stable already appears well stocked.

It is likely the reported targets are being monitored in case a striker departs the Welsh capital city club this summer.

Striker 'target' moves to European club

Northern Ireland international Kyle Lafferty has agreed to join Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta following reports linking him with a move to Cardiff City.

The forward scored 13 goals in 13 games for Scottish club Kilmarnock last season, prompting links with Championship clubs Cardiff, Derby County, West Brom and Wigan.

But Lafferty will not be staying in the British Isles, instead signing a one-year contract with Anorthosis, who have made it through to the Europa League qualifying rounds next season after lifting the Cypriot Cup last month.
