Cardiff City transfer twist as club make definitive decision on Wigan and Wales striker Kieffer Moore

Cardiff City have ended their interest in Wigan and Wales striker Kieffer Moore, WalesOnline has learned.

Last week Latics boss Paul Cook confirmed the club had rejected a bid believed to be worth £2.3m from the Bluebirds.

It was thought that City were going to up their bid in an effort to land the Wales international, with Wigan holding out for around £4m.

However, we can now confirm the Bluebirds will not continue to pursue Moore, with the two clubs failing to reach an agreement regarding the valuation of the player.

Bluebirds boss Neil Harris has previously spoken about potentially strengthening up front this month, following the news of Gary Madine’s exit last week.

And while there had been enquiries about Moore, and indeed a bid from the Welsh capital club, Cardiff will now look elsewhere if they are to add a striker to their ranks this month.

Some reports had linked Cardiff with a move for Stoke City’s Lee Gregory, who enjoyed a very successful spell under Harris at Millwall.

However, it is understood no contact has been made as yet about a move for the Potters forward.

Harris’ prerogative this month was always to streamline the squad and he appears to have made good progress in that respect.

Armand Traore and Brian Murphy are no longer contracted to the club after their short-term deals ended, Ciaron Brown has been sent out on loan to Scottish Premiership club Livingston and, of course, Madine’s contract was terminated by mutual consent.

It is also understood that there have been initial enquiries about taking talented youth prospects Cameron Coxe and Mark Harris on loan this month in order for them to gain some regular experience at senior level, so the squad could yet be trimmed further.

In terms of incomings, however, nothing appears imminent and we will likely have to wait until nearer the end of the transfer window for developments in that department.
